"1685 Apr 07. James Hutchinson, serant to Col. John Custis, was brought to court to have his age judged, but James declared that he had an indenture made in England for nine years, but it 'was clandestinely taken away from him.' Since he could not produce the indenture, the court judged him to be 11 years old. The court ordered that his plea be recorded in case the original indenture was found." (1)
