"14 Dec 1687. Whereas William Lax was committed to the Custody of the Sheriffe by vertue of a Warrant to him directed from Capt. David Fox, Coronr: of this County, upon suspiccon of the said Lax his haveing murdered one, James Baxter, his Servant, this Court upon heareing the evidence touching the same (findeing just Cause) doe order that the Sheriffe of this County doe therefore take into his Custody the body of the said William Lax and him strictly secure in his Custody without Bayle or Maineprize and him safely to convey under a sufficient Guard to the next Genll. Court helde at James Citty, then and there to answer what shall be lay'd to his charge before the Right Honourable the Governor & the Honourable Councell of State touching the premisses the fourth day of the said court.
