Comments:
"Warren, _____. Purchased meat from the Robert Cole estate in 1664. Probably was either (1) John Warren, the father of Ignatius Warren, a former servant who had acquired a plantation on Medley's Neck and was a county justice; (2) Henry Warren, a Jesuit missionary who took control of Roman Catholic landholdings, including those on Bretton's Bay, in 1662; or (3) Humphrey Warren, a London merchant then living at Hatton's Point on the Wicomico River in Charles County." (1) "Warren, Ignatius (Ignatious) (late 1640s-1698). Born: on Medley's Neck, Newtown Hundred. Native: first generation, eldest son. Resided: 'Newtown,' Medley's Neck, Newtown Hundred. Family Background. Father: John Warren (?-1692), a former servant who became a justice of St. Mary's County in 1668. Brother: Augustine (?-1685). Married by 1673 Mary Cole (1653-?), the eldest daughter of Robert Cole. Private Career. Education: literate. Religious Affiliation: Roman Catholic. Occupational Profile: planter; innkeeper. Wealth During Lifetime. Personal Property: inherited cattle and household goods through his marriage. Land: inherited 450 acres. Additional Comments: stood security on two bonds posted by ships' captains to observe the Navigation Acts in 1691 and 1692. When they defaulted, the provincial court levied a L3,000 sterling fine against Warren in 1696. His estate was insufficient to satisfy the debt. Wealth at Death. Personal Property: TEV L26. Land: 450 acres." (1)
