Research Notes
Family:
"Joane Hall was christened on 7 February 1635/6 at St. Helens (Church of England), Martley Parish, Worcestershire, England. She was the third of five children, and the only daughter of John and Joane (_____) Hall. Joane grew up during the English Civil War, and at age eighteen, her father died. A few months later, her brother also died. Lacking parental financial support, Joane left her community at the age of 22 and voyaged from Bristol to St. Christopher, in the West Indies. In order to finance the journey, she labored as an indentured servant in St. Christopher for five years. Assuming she survived the passage and indentureship, at the age of 27 Joane would have begun a new life in the Caribbean. Lack of women on the small island probably resulted in quick marriage; however, details regarding her post-servant life are currently unknown." (1)
