Research Notes
Family:
"Thomas Goodridge (Gootheridge) was christened on 8 May 1642 in Parish Church of North Curry, Somersetshire, England. He was the eldest son of Lawrence and Emlen (Kinglake) Goodridge, who had married at the Church of England Parish in North Curry on 13 April 1640. His father was a mason. At age 12, in 1654 in the midst of the English Civil War, Thomas's parents bound him to John Kelson, a merchant in Bristol, approximately 25 miles away, to take him to Virginia. In order to finance his journey, Thomas labored in Virginia as an indentured servant for nine years. Assuming he survived his passage and indentureship, at the age of 21, Thomas would have begun a new life in the colonies. Further details regarding his post-servant life are currently unknown." (1)
