Research Notes
Proof of Immigrant Servant Status:
"Addressed to the court, 16 July 1667, the declaration of Edm. Scarburgh showed that Miles Grace, Robert Parker, Thomas Hedrington, Robert Hodge, John Bloxom, John Tizard, William Court, John Tarr, and Henry Chancee conspired several times to run away from Scarburgh, as shown by the oaths of Robert Hodge and John Bloxom. On the night of 9 August 1663, all except Tizard broke into 'a store and chest' and took several things; Grace, Parker and Hedrington took a horse called Tom Hall and with him carried the goods to Pungotege, where they broke into another house, stole more goods, and ran off in a boat, leaving their confederates. On the 5th of June 1667, Miles Grace had been returned by Mr. Carpenter, so Scarburgh was requesting a court order that would require Grace to repay by service the costs in the above incident as followed: Robert Parker's time to serve, 4 years 2 months; Thomas Hedrington's time to serve, 4 years 2 months ..."
